Ceto Portokalos

An aggressive lifeguard who treats the average beachgoer as an IDIOT WAITING TO GET SWEPT *SS-FIRST and rarely interacts with others without yelling or lobbing insults at them. He has a strict health regimen regarding training, diet, and lifestyle.

Talk about tough love…

• Killing fish, as opposed to other animals, feels less immoral to Ceto due to an incident as a child where he was swept away at sea by a particularly large salmon. This resulted in him losing a part of his left leg, as well as why he's a pescatarian.
  • He has not forgotten its face since then, and he regularly punches any large fish he sees while swimming in order to send a message.​ This appears to be the only kind of animal he has beef with.
• Emoticons are not his cup of tea, but due to close friend Avril Sahraoui’s influence, there may be a few peppered in now and then.
  • His favorites are (҂` ﾛ ´)凸 and 凸(`△´＃).​
• The Inventor, Jenny Faire, is childhood friends with Ceto and was responsible for refining his prosthetic leg, as his initial attempts would rust and break easily. She visits Peach Beach now and then to make sure that it’s functioning properly, as well as to make suggestions for upgrades (which are always denied, as Ceto prefers to keep things simple).
• Of the named competitors in his year of The Program, Ceto is the one who made it the furthest, supposedly even making it to the top 5.​
  • Ceto was also one of the most popular competitors, even ranking first in a popularity contest at one point. Despite his pride, he had mainly reacted with embarrassment.​
• Since his Value allows him to control the material of his skin, he can also prevent breakouts and other blemishes. His skin is virtually flawless. Even so, he still has a thorough skincare regimen, partly for the discipline of routine and partly due to a hidden fear that his Value can’t grant him this privilege forever.
• Avril once explained that the reason why Ceto refuses to wear a shirt (or, if he does, it'll be open in the middle, showing his chest) is because he's too proud 2 hide his wicked belly scar he got from fightin a sea-bear or somethin B:).​​
  • It m​ay also be because Ceto has a bad habit of ripping his clothing - sometimes because it gets in the way of rescuing people at the beach, sometimes just to make a point.
  • This is a fashion habit he shares with his father, Scylas Portokalos.
• It is an annual tradition for him to travel to Australia with Avril for around a week, in order for her to show him around her home country. He isn’t a fan of the giant spiders, but he does enjoy the company of the kangaroos.
• The jacket he wears was designed by himself. He hand-sewed the fur on the top and embroidered the coral on the sleeves.​​
  • The fur is faux fur, though he enjoys scaring people by claiming to have hunted for whatever creature it had belonged to.​
• His room is surprisingly clean, organized, and minimalistic. He prides himself on keeping things tidy and manageable, as his occupation forces him into chaos all the time.​​
  • The rest of his house would be too, if it were not the victim of Avril's surprise visits.
• Iced beverages have never been Ceto’s preference, and even on hot days he will be seen drinking something hot. He says that it’s better for his digestion.
• One time, he temporarily retired from his lifeguard job to become a bouncer for an esteemed club, by Avril's request. He stopped when a person he turned down then tried to bribe their way in by slipping money in-between his exposed breasts.​​
  • He would harshly scold Avril for it later.​
• Part of his rough childhood included scrounging for food and making meals out of meager resources. As a result, he grew up with a particular interest in cooking and practices the culinary arts in his free time. Avril notes that even the leftovers in his fridge far surpass any food she’d be able to find elsewhere.
• In a hypothetical where he could choose a different Value, Ceto has claimed to want DRAFT the most - the ability to summon mass in exchange for bodily harm.
  • His second choice would be SCALE, which would allow him to change the size of objects.​
• Out of the Peach Beach resident characters, Ceto is the one who travels out of the city the least, as his work doesn’t afford him many vacation days.
• Scylas was supposedly the spitting image of Ceto when he was his age, except he had long hair he tied in a ponytail.
  • This may also be why Ceto prefers to keep his short.​
  • Scylas claims that his son inherited his mother's softness and fastidiousness, as well as her passion for healthy habits. He also apparently inherited her strong Chroma, as Scylas himself matured a Value much later than Ceto did.​
