For some reason, out of all the possible options you could've chose, you went with the most boring one. And the section is as dull as you expected. Sure, there are interesting designs on some of them. Some play with textures and layers in a really creative way. Card design is its own art, in a way. And is that a piece that expands into a cardboard bouquet? Wow.
Well, you stand by the fact that expressing your feelings through card is the most un-exciting option. Especially since the card itself is meant to be the gift. Can't you at least get some flowers or chocolate to go with it?
Y/N I'm getting a card first.
Y/N People always read the card before opening the gift, right?
Sure, whatever. You look through the long shelves of cards, making sure to stop once they turn into the more generic birthday/special occassion cards. But as you stop, you nearly run into someone looking at the cards as well - someone who's been standing so still that you would've mistaken them for a decoration.
Y/N Oh, sorry!
VC W-wah!!!
Even though he should've noticed you in his periphery far sooner, Vincent jumps like a frightened animal once you apologize.
VC F-Forgive me! I'll get out of your way...!
Y/N No, it's okay! I'm only looking at the -
He flees completely out of the card section, leaving you standing there awkwardly. Does he know someone with a birthday coming soon? Or did something tragic happen?
Since it doesn't seem like he's coming back, you turn back around and continue exploring the romantic area of the cards. There's one with a beautiful scene carefully assembled on its cover, each part a separate piece, which gives it a sense of depth. Even if you didn't have a special someone in mind, you're half-tempted to get it just because it looks nice.
Wait, are you coming around on cards now? Curse your aesthetic sensibilities and tender heart. Maybe it's the romantic season. Having something so delicate in your hands, and the prospect of handing it over to someone... it's gotten you in an affectionate mood.
VC You're... sentimental, aren't you?
Now it's your turn to jump. Vincent has appeared to your side, peering over at the card in your hands. He must've come back while you were absorbed in the craftmanship.
VC It's a well-made card. That's for certain.
VC The arrangement of the flowers, each petal, speak to the artist's grace.
VC Is that why?
VC Does it evoke fondness for somewhere familiar?
VC Or... for who you're giving it to?
Y/N ...
You're still too stunned to respond. He notices this, and his eyes widen.
VC My apologies! Was I over-stepping?
VC You're not obligated to pour your heart out to me, of course!
Y/N No, you're fine.
Y/N Please don't run away this time, Vincent.
Y/N You can just talk to me.
He nods, though his shoulders are still hunched in that usual nervous way.
VC I just felt it... overwhelming care, coming from you.
VC Like the warmth radiating off of a sunbeam.
VC It draws me in, you see...
You don't understand the depths of his Value, but it explains why he is so emotionally reactive, enough to draw him out of hiding.
Y/N I see.
Y/N Well, to tell you the truth...
